Taking a look around the horn of Section 14:

AYSO is pleased to announce our new National Executive Director Kim Roberts Hedgpeth. Kim brings a strong background of non-profit leadership and strategic management, including seven years as National Executive Director of the Los Angeles-based American Federation of Television and Radio Artists (AFTRA).

“We see Kim as the ideal person to support the change management of the AYSO Strategic Plan,” said President Berriz, in making the announcement. “We believe that Kim’s diverse and successful background brings many talents and unique capabilities that will impact our organization in many new and exciting ways as we approach our 50 year anniversary. Kim is a proven leader for our national staff and is a very welcome and important addition to our organization.”

Kim helped negotiate and implement the 2012 merger of AFTRA and the Screen Actors Guild (SAG). Upon completion of the merger of the two unions, she chose to step down from her executive role to pursue personal projects.

"I am honored to become associated with AYSO’s 50-year tradition of providing fun, safe and inclusive soccer for children of all ages and abilities,” said Kim in accepting the new assignment. “ I look forward to working with the dedicated coaches, referees, volunteers, staff and parents in expanding its excellent programs for players across the U.S. and the Caribbean, as AYSO celebrates the start of its next 50 years of great soccer."

Kim joined the staff of AFTRA in 1981 and served a wide variety of roles including Co-Director of the New York Local and Executive Director of AFTRA’s San Francisco Local and the San Francisco Screen Actors’ Guild.

From 1998-2000, she served as Director of Labor and Employee Relations for Harvard University before returning to AFTRA in 2001.

Kim received her Bachelor of Arts in American Government from Harvard in 1978 and her Juris Doctor in 1981 from the Georgetown University Law Center. She is admitted to both the New York and California State Bar.

She was born and raised in New York City, the daughter of two performers. She is married to Gilbert W. Hedgpeth, a former law enforcement executive for the State of New Jersey. They now reside in Los Angeles, Calif. Gilbert was an amateur boxer and is now a professional boxing referee, and he played varsity soccer at Ewing High School in Ewing, New Jersey. Kim’s niece and nephew (ages 8 and 6 respectively) play AYSO soccer in Region 1441, Castaic, Calif.

Section Meeting Season is Here - Register Today

Are you registered for your 2013 Section Meeting? Section Meetings are for all AYSO volunteers and are a great opportunity to connect with fellow volunteers from throughout your Section, further your training, get certified and learn new things in a variety of engaging workshops.

It’s truly an invaluable experience – all attendees will be armed with the tools necessary to give their Regions’ players the true “AYSO Experience.”

It’s important to note that every year, Section Meetings are centered around a theme – this year’s being RESPECT.starts.with.me. Respect should be the foundation of youth sports – and when we treat each other with courtesy, consideration and patience, kids pay attention and follow suit. Imagine if all AYSO participants embraced RESPECT.starts.with.me – that means showing respect for coaches, referees, players, parents and all volunteers, making the AYSO experience a positive one for everyone.

With the theme in mind, the 2013 Section Meetings present a chance for you to learn how to foster a respectful environment in your own Region – while also educating and training you for your job and its specific requirements.

The Section Meetings host an impressive lineup of workshops and roundtables; there’s something for everyone. Whether you’re a treasurer, CVPA, registrar, webmaster, Regional Commissioner, coach, referee, selling Region sponsorships, or have any other Regional role, Section Meetings have workshops with education materials just for you. There are also a few brand new workshops being presented this year, including:

- AYSO Amplified: A course focused on helping Regions effectively leverage the AYSO brand

- REC is Not a Four Letter Word: A session that gives Regions tips on how to compete successfully in their communities with other organizations

- 7 Simple Secrets for an Amazing Region Website: This course will tell you all you need to know to perfect your online communications both through your Region website and social media

(Note: not all workshops are available at all meetings. See your Section Meeting agenda for a complete schedule)

Topic-specific roundtables will also be offered at Section Meetings, giving volunteers a chance to connect and discuss matters face-to-face with National volunteers and staff.

AYSO’s Section Meetings will travel Section to Section, all across the country. Thousands of AYSO’s Executive Members will take advantage of the rare opportunity for fun, education and camaraderie. Make sure you don’t miss out!
